1.  Real Estate

114,4 bn USD is dedicated to developing education, healthcare, employment, and housing. In addition improvements in drinking water, electricity, and natural gas supply systems will be made.

A substantial amount of  114,4 bn USD  is being utilized solely for the improvement of the housing sector .

Key statistics

·         Creation of 2 million new homes to be appointed as following:

o   800,000 rental properties

o   500,000 promotion priced properties

o   700,000 residential properties at rural areas

·         1,2 mil houses to be delivered by 2014, while the remaining until end of 2017

·         Connecting 1 million households to a natural gas network

·         Electricity to be supplied to 220,000 households

 


2.  Transportation

Algeria˘s transport sector is picking up speed, with a host of new urban tram and metro projects set to help alleviate traffic in cities. In addition, new investments in airport infrastructure and aircraft aim to improve access to the country˘s more remote areas.

Key projects:

·         Prime Minister Ahmed Ouyahia opens Algiers Metro on November 1st 2011

·         US$ 40 billion from the 5-year plan dedicated to transport infrastructure

·         US$ 520 million for improving airport infrastructure and upgrading technology

·         State-owned Air Algérie announces plans to spend US$ 672 million on modernising and expanding its current fleet of 42  aircraft

·         7 motorway links spanning 515 km to connect the ports of Oran, Mostaganem, Ténès, Skikda

·         Construction of 17 railway lines

·         Creation of 27 new urban transport companies

·         35 new bus stations

·         4 ports and sheltered fishing areas

·         Converting the Alger-El Menea national road into 870 km of dual carriageway

·         Completion of the 1,200 km East-West Highway

·         Construction of 350 km long  4th motorway ring road

·         Creation of underground railways in Algiers and Oran

·         Building of 9 cable railways

·         7 new airport terminals

 


3.  Construction

With internal debt decreasing and national savings at 50% of GDP, Algeria has built a strong base for future growth. This will be ehanced by US$156 billion investment in new projects, and US$ 130 billion allocated for current rail, road and water projects.

Key statistics:

·         1,500 health facilities including 172 hospitals, 45 specialised health complexes, 377 clinics, and 70 specialist disability institutions

·         US$ 6.6 billion for the spatial planning and the environment

·         Construction of 35 new dams

·         25 water transfer systems, and the completion of all seawater desalination plant projects

·         US$ 2.4 billion to build 220 institutes, 82 training centres, and 58 vocational boarding schools

·         US$ 2 billion to create industrial zones for small and medium enterprises

·         5,000 new sporting facilities including 80 stadia and 400 swimming pools

 


4.  Water and Electricity

Investment in water and wastewater infrastructure is driven by the need to secure greater water resources and improved wastewater treatment. This is primiarily due to improved living standards and falling precipitation.

By 2014, Algeria will account for 3.39% of Middle East and Africa˘s regional power generation. In addition, energy production is set to rise by 23.2% by 2014.

Key projects:

 

·         Upgrading drinking water supply to 37 towns

·         A new 40,281 hectare hydro-agricultural development

·         Renovation of existing irrigation systems covering 19,800 hectares

·         Constructing 35 dams and 25 water transfer systems

·         US$ 30 billion investment in electricity and gas projects in the next ten years

·         Building 44 water treatment plants

·         Construction of a 600MW power plant in Hassi Messaoud

·         Completion of 2 large projects to protect Bab El Oued and Ghardaïa against flooding

·         Six power projects with a cumulative capacity of over 6,000 MW have been planned

·         Desalination plan programme implemented with capacities ranging from 100,000m3/d to 500,000m3/d
